01:08 pm - And poof goes the journal.
I am officially unemployed now, as of last Friday, in a sort of mutual separation from my prior place of employment (I was ready to move on, and they apparently needed the desk space to accomodate fulltime hires). As I am now looking for a job, however, having a blog of any sort has ceased being a hobby I intended to pick back up and has instead become a liability; "check for personal-details posted online" is pretty much now one of the required steps in employment practices, and finding them is not considered a positive sign in many places.

I wasn't really using this anymore anyways. I haven't spent much time online in the last few months. For the record, here is my abbreviated summer:
Worked a bunch. Saw Dead Man's Chest. Read Under the Black Flag, a book about pirate history. Became moderately obsessed with pirate life and lore. Started writing on personal wikis, stopped writing on here. Reconnected with local friends I hadn't seen in a long time. Discovered a love of karaoke, and an immense inability to play pool. Found and lost a girlfriend over the course of about two and a half weeks (we're still friends, though). Stopped playing WoW, started back playing EVE Online (as it is a game that accomodates my desire to only actually play once a week or so by allowing your character to progress even while you're offline). Currently back in school, studying breads and pastries. Already made french bread loaves, working on making danishes next week. Looking into getting an apprentice position in a bakery, now that I have the opportunity. Stopped spending so much time just floating online, started spending more time on little personal projects.

I've basically concluded that the journal I was keeping wasn't fulfilling its original purpose of creation - as a notepad of and catalogue for the random ideas and inspirations I get all the time. I was instead spending most of my time on here finding content produced by other people in an attempt to make the journal an entertaining read or just randomly complaining about personal life stuff. As a result, I've moved on to using wikis to actually achieve my original purpose: create a notebook of concepts I can add to anywhere as soon as I get an idea. It means less pressure to "perform" in my online presence, and absolutely no temptation to use my writings simply to, well, bitch. Thus I've actually been getting stuff done.

I'm unlikely to blog anymore. I kept putting off saying that, because I wasn't really sure if I would get back to doing it eventually or not, but I've been socializing far more in real life than online in the last several months and now that it's a liability to finding a position that'll possibly get me into the culinary world I'm not really interested in continuing it. I'm still going to keep this as a little online presence, just in case I feel the need to use it for something like asking opinions or catching up with the people I don't really talk with much anymore, but don't expect regular activity.

You can find what I've been working on lately over at my wiki scratchpad (where my current little brainstorming project is a team of superpowered pirates fighting tyranny in a sort of tongue-in-cheek comic book thingy), or in the Cannonade wiki (where I'm designing a pirate-world webgame), or in my lately-rather-untouched NaNoWriMo wiki (where I'm trying to plot out a story to write about in November for National Novel Writing Month). At least one of those gets a little bit of work every week or so, even if it is just adding in some small little thing that has absolutely no correllation to anything else over in the scratchpad. I like to think of it as progress.

So, y'know... just letting people know I still live, but am not very active as an online presence anymore.
